About

The IPD Fellow Program offers paid leadership positions to IPD study abroad alumni who are passionate advocates for study abroad within the Northwestern undergraduate community.  IPD Fellows will focus on specific initiatives, while also assisting with the leadership of the IPD Ambassador Program. As an IPD Fellow, you will have the opportunity to play a direct role in shaping IPD’s alumni engagement efforts and gain skills for the internationally engaged workplace.

  • The pay rate is $10.00/hour, approximately 50 hours/quarter; Fellows will generally work 5 hours/week, with some weeks requiring less or more hours

Responsibilities 

  • Serve as leaders and managers of the IPD Ambassador Program
  • Facilitate IPD Ambassador Program trainings in the fall and winter quarters
  • Coordinate activities for IPD Ambassadors
  • Advise students interested in IPD study abroad during walk-in advising hours and at events
  • Collaborate with the Study Abroad Office Peer Advisors and the Global Engagement Studies Institute (GESI) Fellows on events and overall campus internationalization
  • Serve in an advisory capacity with a role in shaping and providing feedback for IPD Study Abroad
  • Monitor and observe the IPD Study Abroad Pre-Departure Canvas course to understand where students are in the study abroad process

Positions

Each fellow may assist with overall IPD Study Abroad administrative tasks, with a particular focus and leadership role in the following areas:

Alumni Engagement & Events Fellow

  • Coordinate classroom visits, information sessions, and other recruitment efforts/events with the IPD Ambassadors
  • Host focus groups for returnees and compile reports of focus group outcomes
  • Serve as the lead Fellow for Pre-Departure Orientation planning
  • Manage outreach to outbound students
  • Assist with managing the IPD Ambassadors Canvas Community
  • Coordinate with IPD Ambassadors to plan and hold IPD alumni reunion events and outreach
  • Coordinate returnee dinners with visiting study abroad professors
  • Coordinate with IPD Ambassadors to plan and hold informal dinners for outbound students
  • Organize end of quarter IPD Ambassador celebrations
  • Assist with the development of a new end of quarter survey for IPD Ambassadors, and analysis of survey results

Marketing & Public Relations Fellow

  • Assist with designing and managing the IPD Ambassadors Canvas Community
  • Assist with publicity and outreach for IPD Study Abroad programs through the development of marketing materials
  • Serve as the lead fellow for social media, establishing campaigns throughout the year (e.g. feature an ambassador every Tuesday or highlight different programs in advance of their deadline)
  • Review student’s blog posts and assist with tracking blog posting requirements
  • Assist in connecting with undergraduate groups and student organizations interested in international relations, global health, countries with IPD programs, etc.
  • Coordinate with IPD Ambassadors to post alumni content to the IPD Study Abroad blogs
  • Research study abroad blogging best practices

Qualifications

  • Alumni of an IPD study abroad or exchange program
  • Passion for study abroad
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to holistically reflect upon and articulate your study abroad experiences in a professional, truthful, and responsible manner
  • Preferred: previous participation in the IPD Ambassador Program
